Chapter background: The Emperors Tears

The Chapter was officially founded during the 23rd Founding also known as the "Sentinel Founding," occurred during the latter part of the M37 and early M38, it is widely suspected they are of true Raven Guard gene-stock, with Corvus Corax as their Primarch, though this is held as a deep secret, not out of shame, but rather to avoid the distraction from their charge to protect against and defeat the nameless terrors of the void.

The Chapter lacks the loss of the Mucranoid and Belcher's Glands typically missing in Raven Guard successors. The Chapter was deemed exempt from the Edict of Nicea, with the proviso that they tithe their gene-seed regularly to both the Mechanicus gene-wrights of Mars and upon Holy Terra. Both more frequently than most Chapters, and submit their Librarians and Chaplins to Ordo Malleus auditing. The Chapter otherwise enjoys significant autonomy from Imperial Administratum.

The Chapter is known to actively avoid regions patrolled by the Carcharodons Astra, more to avoid jurisdiction conflicts than any animosity. The Chapter recruits from mining worlds, especially from rock-hopper asteroid belt mining colonies, and even fleet populations, preferring to select from the void born over planet-born for the tenacity and grit those Belter populations select for, though extra enhancement therapy is often required of candidates from the intrinsically low-G habitats, bolstered by intakes from high-G drydock and shipyard worlds.

As well as the Adeptus Mechanicus, the Chapter keeps close operational ties with the Ordo Malleus in order to track, document and pursue the elusive space hulks, in order to better pursue their charter, this contact also assists in gaining support when cleansing and recovering relics from prosecuted Space Hulks. They also frequently accompany Rogue Trader fleets into the fringes of Imperial territory and beyond.

The Chapters void based remit sees them only infrequently partaking in land based combat and as such do not field significant Armour assets or massed unit formations, preferring surgical strikes and clandestine operations to secure resources, deploying Scout Marines, infiltrators and pinpoint targeted planetary bombardment to achieve their planetside outcomes.

Teleporting Deepstrike Terminator units to secure strike locations whilst eliminating defensive infrastructures, the Chapter does not waste precious lives or resources when orbital bombardment will suffice. A vaguely Codex complaint Chapter, with the standard 10 Companies, but of various sizes, with relatively large First and Tenth Companies
