Mission Brief
The Captain was joined in short order by Flight Operations Chief Dingly, a lightly Augmented Enginseer who had transferred from Engineering to Flight Ops. some thirty cycles ago and oversees launch and recovery operations from the Indelible Mark’s hangars. They were then joined by Lieutenant Annullir of the Astartes Marine contingent who was accompanied by Veteran Scout Sergeant Astin of Ghain Squad. The Lieutenant in his full ceramite battle plate, dwarfing the mortal contingent and even the Scout Sergeant in his half plate. The two Astartes took seats across from the Captain, in appropriately scaled conference chairs, backless to accommodate the Astartes power-packs. Last to formally arrive was the representative from the ships Mechanicum contingent. Archeo-Magos Wahed-7-8 clicks into the Strategium on his 9 mechadendrite leg augments, void-optimised and elevated beyond the weakness of the flesh as his creed demands. The Magos interfaces with the conference table without pre-amble and the holo-lith springs to life, displaying the Hulk with various annotations.
“Shall we begin?” intones the Captain with a tone of mild irritation at the presumption on the part of the cyborg. “Indeed” rasps Wahed-7-8. “Sigma 83-9-12 represents a significant opportunity not only in terms of materiel but also in likely salvage from the three pre-Imperial vessels thus identified in its mass. These include The Long Haul Agri-Ark identified as the “Valley Forge”, the deep space crewed probe “USS Palomino” and Bulk Hauler THX-1138. We have found references to the first two in our Dark-age archives but no data on the latter, other than its hull markings. Deep Auspex scans indicate tunnels between the three hulls, through the icy-chondrite and iron debris matrix indicating survivors existed for some duration at some time but no current active emissions or life signs detected. We recommend caution but enthusiastic investigation for the good of the Chapter and the Omnisiah’s blessing be with you.”
Taking this Captain turns face to Lieutenant Annullir, deferring to the tactical mastery of his status and asks "do you have a suitable force ready?" The Lieutenant nods slightly clearly to his left and Sergant Astin speaks, his gravely voice clear though ragged as a result of a void exposure incident during an operation many years ago, "Ghain Squad is at full capacity and stands to. The lads are ready and I think this would be a good mission to cut their teeth on. We just need a Boarding craft" He taps on the hololith controls and calls up the details of Squad Ghain for all to see. Scout Squad Ghain's personell display indicates its standard structure: 9 scout marines, Novitiates on the cusp of becoming full Battle Brothers of the Chapter, bearing all but the last of the nineteen gene-seed organ implants that differentiate the Astartes from baseline mortal humans. 8 scouts in quarter-plate armour and void suit blend of Chapter scouts, slightly less than the half-plate the Sergant himself wears, lightly armed with bolt pistol and blades, and a tenth bearing the massive heavy bolter as squad support, the sergeant himself would be taking command for a total of ten.
Archeo-Magos Wahed-7-8 interjects, raising a mechadendrite by way of interruption, its buzzing vocoder crackling "given the suspected Dark Age origins nature of Sigma 83-9-12 we would request the inclusion of an explorator element. Sergant Aatin raises a scarred eyebrown to the Lieutenant who gestures to the Archeo-Magos, "do you have a candidate prepaired?" as he rested his ceramite gauntleted hand on the plas-steel tabletop. "Afirmative. Explorator 7-Zark-7 is best suited and is standing to. The unit will join your strike team in the drop hanger." All eyes turned to the Captain, reviewing the crew manifest and cross referencing the data in the presentation. "Flight?" She asks. looking over her data-slate to Chief Dingly, waiting impassively at the furthest edge of the table. Chief Dingly places the adjustable cresent wrench he was toying with in his lap and cleared his augmented throat and clicked his tongue before speaking "RBC-172, Remora Class Boarding skiff, is fueled and ready to depart, her Servitor-pilot was just upgraded and ready for a mission. Bay Green 32."
The Captain placed her data-slate on the tabletop and placed all fingertips of her right hand on the tablet and simply said "make it happen". without further ceremony, she stood and strode towards the door. The Armsman on guard there stood to and cycled the hatch and stepped through before the Captain, as tradition required. The two Astartes rose as one, their preternatural reflexes and enhanced bodies demonstrating a fragment of the essence that made them the Emperors Angels of Death. As they strode towards the hatchway, their ceramite shod feet clicked softly, belaying the weight each footfall bore. The Archeo-Magos, Wahed-7-8 detached from the terminal and rose on his 9 mechadendrite limbs as they pass. The grizzled Chief Dingly lowered his eyes and made the sign of the Aquilla over his chest then the Cog as both sets of trans-humans vacated the chamber before rising himself and hurrying off to the hangers to oversee final preparations.
